Pastor Accused of Sexual Assault in Matero: Congregant Seeks Justice
Pastor John General, also known as John Nundwe, reportedly sexually assaults a 28-year-old congregant, identified as Esther Tembo Nyau, in her home in Kahale area, Matero. The incident, which took place on November 22, 2023, between 13:00 and 14:00 hours, involves the pastor allegedly forcing himself on Esther during a supposed prayer visit.
However, Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the incident, providing details that Esther, experiencing recurrent miscarriages, sought the pastor’s prayers. The pastor arranged to visit her home for prayers, accompanied by an unknown man.
During the visit, Pastor John reportedly insisted on checking all rooms for prayers, leading to the sexual assault in the bedroom. Above all, Esther’s husband, Pearson Tembo, arrived around 13:30 hours, discovered the assault, locked the gate, and confronted the pastor. The pastor fled the scene, leaving behind his clothes, a cellphone, and a Chrysler motor vehicle with registration number BCD 372.
Police have issued a medical report for the complainant, and a manhunt is underway for Pastor John General. The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the vulnerability of congregants and the need for justice in cases of abuse within religious settings.’
